Project *Mets les voiles sur ton avenir!*.

The project is an initiative to increase academic perseverance and is run by the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Bourassa-Sauvé (CJE) in partnership with l’École Amos and La CS de la Pointe-de-l’Île. The activities are spread out between February and May 2010 with the height being a three day sailing excursion on the Fjord of the Saguenay in collaboration with l’école de voile Damacha Yachting.

The seven (7) participants chosen by the École d’Amos’ intervention need to be 16 to 17 years of age, residents of Montreal North and present motivational problems in regards to their academics.

Accompanied by an employment counsellor from CJE, an orientation counsellor from École Amos, and the ship’s Captain Marie-Emmanuelle Côté who will be providing a training of at least three (3) meetings of three (3) hours each. The youths will participate in all of the stages of navigation, where they will need to depend and rely on one another. The outcome of the sailing excursion (3 days) is aiming to prevent school dropout.

It is then said that training is an effective way of stimulating motivation, personal achievement, and self-esteem.

The second edition of «LA NAVIGATION CÔTIÈRE», written by Normand Corbeil is now available (in French).
