Mission

The Quebec Sailing Federation exists to publicize, support and promote sailing, but first and foremost, it serves as an umbrella organization for thousands of pleasure boaters who are part of over 80 clubs and sailing schools all over Quebec.

The Federation is also a pressure group.
It ensures that governments take the needs and expectations of sailing enthusiasts into account and that legislation takes your interests into consideration. FVQ members play an active role in making sure that waterways remain accessible to and safe for pleasure boating and that safety regulations reflect the specificities and needs of the sailing community.

The Federation works to protect the interests of sailors.
It belongs to the Quebec boating Council, which organizes the annual "Safe Boating Week". The FVQ also sits on the "Coast Guard Recreational Boating Advisory Council". One of its accomplishments was to help revise programs affecting safe boating, watercraft registration and "sailing licenses".

The Federation recently published a new sailing guide for pleasure boaters, entitled En Suivant le St-Laurent . This guide is now available in english.

If you belong to an FVQ club, you have special privileges at all FVQ clubs. You can enjoy your travels more, being safe in the knowledge that throughout your trip you will be able to berth at a member club free of charge. A directory of affiliated clubs is available from the Federation.

The Federation is also involved in regattas.
Through a regional network, the Federation coordinates the schedule of activities and provides organizers with technical support. It trains racing officials and oversees the application of rules and regulations. In Quebec, you can compete on all types of sailboats; dinghies, catamarans, sailboards and keelboats can each compete in a series of events that are both friendly and physically demanding. A regatta schedule is available from the Federation.

The Federation trains sailing instructors.
If you want to learn to sail or improve your technique, FVQ-certified instructors will share their enthusiasm with you and offer you a training program to meet your needs. FVQ instructor training and sailing school certification both meet rigorous standards. A directory of members schools is available from the Federation.

The Federation develops the high performance sector as well.
Elite athletes from Quebec compete in important events, such as the Olympic Games, major international competitions, the Canadian Championships and the Canada Games. The Federation offers supervision and technical support from the best coaches to enable our athletes to develop further and improve their performance. Their success is the pride of all Quebec sailors.

The Federation is all of this and more!
In addition to supporting the development of sailing throughout Quebec and representing the interests of sailors to the Canadian Coast Guard and governmental agencies, it enables its members to enjoy the following advantages: a subscription to the Voile-Québec Info newsletter and L’Escale Nautique magazine, a discount on FVQ publications, a special agreement with the Bank of Montreal and an agreement with the Royal Insurance Company.

By joining the Fédération de voile du Québec, you are investing in your future enjoyment of sailing!
