Learn to Cruise

Basic Crew Standard (no pre-requisites)
This certificate is intended for anyone seeking an enriching sailing experience without necessarily "taking the helm." The theory content in this course is the same as for the basic cruising standard, but participants will specialize as crew members on the water.

Basic Cruising Standard (no pre-requisites)
This course covers the basics of cruising in sheltered waters. You will learn sailing terms, the parts of a keelboat, important safety rules and basic rules of navigation. At the end of this course, you will be able to handle a boat using the motor or the sails, position the sails properly in relation to the wind, and save someone who has fallen overboard.

Intermediate Standard
This course will help you improve your daytime cruising skills by teaching you about route planning, on-board living, and mooring a boat. It will also provide you with related information on weather and navigation. In addition, you will improve your practical skills while learning how to deal with various problem situations that may occur on the water and how to handle a spinnaker.

Coastal Navigation Standard
This course will teach you the theoretical concepts required to sail safely in coastal or inshore waters. The practical concepts taught in the advanced course will round out this knowledge.

Advanced Cruising Standard
This course covers advanced theoretical concepts related to sailing, weather, safety, sailing techniques, and boat maintenance and repair. You will become familiar with spinnakers, night-time sailing, manoeuvring under more difficult wind and current conditions, and the practical aspects of coastal navigation.

Other Standards:

     - Basic Keelboat Racing
     - Advanced Navigation
     - Celestial Navigation
     - Offshore Sailing
