| Learn to Sail (dinghy)
White Sail level I
Welcome to the wonderful world of sailing! Learn about wind direction, figure-eight and bowline knots, PFDs (personal flotation devices) and safety equipment. Learn to rig and moor a sailboat before actually performing your first sailing manoeuvres on the water!
White Sail level II
At this level, the terms "bow", "stern", "forestay", "shroud", "bearing away" and "heading" will reveal their secrets! You will learn how to tie more knots, sail close hauled, beam reach, broad reach and run before the wind, under your instructor's supervision.
White Sail level III
By the end of this course, you will have mastered the skills required to sail without supervision, and manoeuvres will be second nature to you. Information on hypothermia, the rules of navigation, weather conditions and safety will round out your knowledge. Schools often require that anyone wishing to rent a sailboat hold a Level 3 certificate, since it proves that the individual in question can sail without supervision.
Bronze level IV
This course will provide you with the theoretical knowledge that is crucial to improving your technique, i.e. forces acting on the hull and sails, lee and weather helm, the effect produced by making various adjustments to the shape of the sails, etc. You will also learn to steer a boat without a rudder, move backwards, and improve your skills in handling a boat under harsher wind conditions.
Bronze level V
Experience new thrills on the water while performing spinnaker manoeuvres, using the trapeze, planning and surfing. Discover new theoretical concepts, and learn about mooring and boat maintenance and repair. This course is a prerequisite for anyone wishing to become an instructor.
Silver level VI
Discover the world of regattas as you learn about racing rules and signals, basic strategies and tactics, racing operations and claims.
