Sailing

  • Sailing, a sport for life

Sailing can truly be practiced at any age and level, from Opti sailing among youth, to Olympic-class racing, where so-called “age d’or” athletes take part in world championships.

  • Sailing, a hobby that is exhilarating and accessible

Exhilarating because it is exciting and invoques passion. Accessible because there is an aspect of sailing that appeals to all tastes, all means, all levels: windsurfing, single-handed dinghy sailing, double-handed dinghy sailing, keelboat sailing, adapted sailing, sailing for women, etc.

  • Sailing, an education to learn the ropes

A training process that will carry you away in different ways: offering knowledge in a learning context, through the transmission of our coaches' passion and also for those in the high-performance context.

  • Sailing, a lifestyle to cruise away from it all

Sailing is much more than a sport. For many, it is a life-long philosophy. Recreational sailing encompasses those who leave for many months and sometimes years, to those who choose it for its social community and environmental benefits.

Tougas and Pépin-Delhaes Win National Award

Tougas PepinDelhaesOn January 20th, the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) published the list of 2012 CYA prize-winners; among these exceptional sailors are young Quebeckers Frédérique Tougas and Florence Pépin-Delhaes. The girls won the Bill Burk Memorial Youth Elite Award, which is given to an athlete or crew who has a record of outstanding achievement in national and international youth competition and who has demonstrated strong sportsmanship.

In 2011, Frédérique and Florence stood out in the 29er class. In merely their second season, the girls achieved excellent results, which included an impressive 1st place at the CYA Youth Nationals and at the Icebreaker regatta, a 6th place at CORK International, a 5th place at the 29er Canadian Youth Championship and a 3rd place at Fall CORK. These achievements also earned them the 2011 FVQ Youth Athlete award, presented last October.

For the girls, this success is just the beginning, as they are aiming for a spot in the 2016 Olympic Games, in the women’s skiff class. Congratulations girls, and good luck at the 29er Midwinters in Miami!

Bjorn and Clarke Secure a Spot at the Olympics

At the ISAF World Championship in December of 2011, held in Perth, Clarke and Bjorn secured a spot for themselves in the Star Class for the London Olympics. After several days of races, the pair finished 10th in a fleet of 41 boats. For Canada, this result is a success, however Bjorn stated that they made some mistakes. Clarke and Bjorn will now be training with Brazilians Scheidt and Prada, who won the retatta, and have their sights on the top three spots at upcoming events.

Four other Quebec athletes participated in the ISAF regatta: Dominique Vallée (RS:X Women), Trevor Parekh and Matthieu Dubreucq (49er) and Martin Robitaille (Finn). At 19 years of age, Martin Robitaille was the youngest in his fleet and finished 41st out of 72.
