10h30 to 11h30 and 17h00 to 18h00 - Simon DuBois, Event Ambassador and sailing athlete,
A look back on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race

Simon tells the story of the journey that led him to become the first Quebecer to complete a crewed sailing race around the world! Relive the highlights of his journey and dive into the world of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race with him.

11h45 to 12h45 - Richard Petit,  Author, composer and performer,
From Zero to Me in 500 days

With almost no sailing experience, in June of 2018, I began my training while delivering a boat from Nassau to Lake Champlain, which led to a to a crazy, fast-paced series of  practical and theoretical training sessions, eventually ending with the purchase of a boat in Annapolis. I will tell you how I mapped out this dream to make it a life project and a great family adventure.

13h00 to 14h15 - Luc Bernuy, Sailing instructor and sailor,
Heading South : It's All About Being Organized

Hundreds of people dream of heading South, but not all of them get there and many leave poorly prepared. Pre-departure organization is the key to having a successful trip. Luc Bernuy, public speaker and author of “L’Intracostal, le guide”, will deliver practical ideas for leaving organized, while adding his usual humour. He will also stay on location all day, for book signings.

14h30 to 15h30 - Diego Creimer, Communication Director, David Suzuki Foundation,
Plastic Waste at Sea

The St-Lawrence flows through our veins, yet every year we dump large amounts of waste into it, including plastics. In Canada, nearly 90% of plastics end up in landfills, incinerators or in our lakes, parks and oceans. We can do better! It’s urgent to act now and reduce our overconsumption of plastic and improve the management of our recyclable residues. In this conference, we will discuss plastic pollution in water, its effects on health and ecosystems, and solutions to mitigate this scourge of the 21 century.

Saturday November 5th - Sailor's Night "At the heart of the Transat"

REGISTRATION ON SITE

Please be with us on Saturday November 5th 2016 at 7PM to celebrate all evening the sailing accomplishments of 2016 under the theme of the Quebec-St-Malo transatlantic race. Many key players of the Quebec scene will be present to tell their side of this amazing adventure. During the evening we will also disclose the different winners of other events of the 2016 season.

Come discover this event from within! Damien de Pas, Race Director will explain how one prepares and gets ready for such an event. Damian Foxall, crewmember on the trimaran Musandam-Oman Sail will tell the story of its capsizing and its return to land. Antoine Lacasse and Charles Mony will also be present to discuss their experience of the Quebec-St-Malo transatlantic race. The public will also be invited to ask questions and exchange with the panel of experts.

This event will also serve as fundraiser as part of the fundraising campaign of Placements Sports. Come and be part of this special evening while supporting the athletes and the different projects of the Quebec Sailing Federation. You will have the opportunity to buy raffle tickets for your preferred prizes and lots. Hosted by Michel Sacco, the evening will honor sailing with tremendous stories, lots of emotions and dreams.

Présentation of the invited guests :

  • Antoine Lacasse :

    Antoine_Lacasse_-_O_Canada.jpg

Young sailor, previously Director of the Outaouais sailing school and University Laval student, this was Antoine’s second consecutive participation at the Transat Québec St-Malo. Crewmember on board the Class40 Sirius with a team from St-Pierre and Miquelon, Antoine’s goal was more the adventure than the feat of winning. Come listen to this young man’s story and discover his ambitions to be part of the 2020 event but this time with his own crew.

  • Charles Mony :Charle.jpg
Businessman and great passionate of sailing, this québécois of french origins was at his third transat participation. Crew on board French Tech Rennes St-Malo in the Multi 50 category, the crew’s ambition was to win the race after being 3rd in 2008 and 2nd in 2012.

  • Damien de Pas :

    Damien-2.jpg

Transat race director, Damien has over 20 years of sea experience. After sailing on all types of sailboats and being an ocean sailing race expert, Damien has succeeded Jean-Claude Maltais at the helm of the event. How such an event is organized? What responsibilities have the race Director? Damien will give us his side of the story and how a race is helmed from the shore.

  • Damian Foxall : Winner of multiple offshore races, presentation is not needed for this adoptive Quebec sailor who was again participating at the transat. Foxall, with his experienced crew and spectacular trimaran Musandam-Oman Sail in the Ultime class had all the reasons to win in a record breaking time, but a transatlancic race can never be a sure win. Only a few days after departure all chances of victory disappeared with the capsizing of the boat. Come listen to this amazing story by one of the crewmember who lived it all from the capsizing to the rescue and tow of the sailboat.

  • Patrice Drouin :
