Montreal, May 13th, 2015 -The competition Garda Trentino Olympic Week at Lake Garda, Italy, came to an end yesterday with good news for Quebec and Canadian athletes! The event is the second leg of the Eurosaf Champions Sailing Cup, bringing together some of the best sailors from Europe and around the world! Several athletes from Quebec in RS-X class and 49er FX were there.
The 49er FX class was represented by Arielle Morgan and Heather Myatt. Our athletes from Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club performed well finishing 6th out of 25 crews. Rosie Chapman, Head Coach of the Quebec team comments: "The girls put together a solid week in a strong fleet. This year, their goal is to get as much racing in as possible. The hard work they have put in over the winter and spring is already paying off! The girls are now heading back to Canada, with a short pit stop in Montreal before heading to Halifax to train with the national team. They will then return to Montreal for the annual spring training camp at the end of May. Congratulations again for this past week"
In the RS-X women' fleet: Laurence Bonneau-Charland finished 6th out of 12. For the RS-X men’s fleet: Gabriel Verrier-Paquette finished 19th and Jean-Sébastien Fugère 20th out of 23.
Next for the RS-X men’, the Delta Lloyd Regatta, will be held in Medemblik, Netherlands, from May 26-30. In Finn, Martin Robitaille starts competing in Croatia for the Finn Europeans. As for the other classes, we will follow closely this weekend the results from the Ice Breaker regatta in Toronto.
Congratulations to all the athletes and good luck for the next competition!
