Montreal, September 26, 2016 – The Fall Cork Regatta was hosted over the weekend at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour in Kingston, Ontario.

Several athletes from the province of Quebec made the journey and ended up with some great results. The weather played with the competitors as a shifting wind made for few races Saturday.

In the Laser Radial class we have a new champion, Maxime Amyot. Training at the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club, Maxime had some stiff competition up against 56 other sailors in his class. Michael Thomas, also from the Royal, was also on the podium with a 2nd place finish. Several other sailors from the province were in the top 20, Philippe Benoit (11th), Léa Desgroseillers (12th), William Staples (13th), Pierre-Olivier Gagnon (16th), Anna Morineau (19th). In the women’s category Léa Desgroseillers was the big winner!

In the Optimist category, athletes from the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club showed that all their training has paid off. In the overall standings Thomas Staples finished 3rd, in the red fleet Éric Omielan took home a very respectable 3rd place, in the blue fleet it was Thomas Staples who finished 1st, and Jean-René Kiekens Arana finished 3rd.

In the double handed categories we would like to highlight the performances of the team of Arielle Morgan in the 49erFX who finished 1st out of 5 boats. There were 19 boats in the 420 class, with the team of Morgan Kittson and Adrianna Baird from the Province of Quebec who took home a 3rd place finish. We would like to highlight the performances of two teams in particular who participating in their second regatta showed potential in the 29er skiff, Cameron Baird and Alec Baird finished 7th and the team of Myka Auger-Cyr and Julien Berger finished 10th.
